From Shorts to Feature: Pavel Marek<\/b><\/h2>\n

In cooperation with the MIDPOINT Institute and with the support of the Croatian Audiovisual Centre (HAVC), ZFF will host a masterclass by Czech director and screenwriter Pavel Marek. Many prominent filmmakers began their careers making short films. Their works often reveal a spontaneous arsenal of formal devices that foreshadow a certain style or thematic focus. By transitioning to feature films, harmonising a unique vision of the world with conceptual dramatic thinking becomes vital. PAVEL MAREK<\/strong><\/h2>\n
Pavel Marek graduated from the Faculty of Computer Engineering in the Czech Republic, and then completed his studies at the Directing Department at FAMU. During the communist era, he co-founded the underground film association Bulsitfilm, in which he started collaborating with surrealist filmmakers and appeared as an actor in the films of the legendary director Jan \u0160vankmajer. His feature-length graduation film <\/span>Dead Beetle<\/span><\/i> (1998) won the Volkskrant Critics Award at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. Later he would focus mainly on documentary films and writing scripts for the animation series Pat and Mat.
